Periklis Sfyridis

Periklis Sfyridis was born in 1933 in Thessaloniki, where he currently resides. He graduated from the American College "Anatolia" in the class of 1952. He studied medicine at the University of Thessaloniki and worked as a cardiologist until 1994. He served as the president of the Thessaloniki Medical Association from 1975 to 1981. He made his literary debut with a poetry collection in 1974 and collaborated closely with the magazine "Diagonios." From 1985 to 1990, he published the annual edition "Parafyada," featuring unpublished texts by Thessaloniki prose writers. In 1996, he organized the conference "Paramythia Thessalonikis" on the city's prose from 1912 to 1995 and edited the conference proceedings (1997). His short story "The Secret" was the basis for Tasos Psaras's film "The Other Side" (1991), for which he co-wrote the screenplay with the director. Two other short stories were adapted into TV movies by Greek television (ERT): "Patient's Card" and "The Mix-up." He has published two poetry collections, ten short story collections, two novels, and a reflective commentary on his intellectual journey. He released studies on writers and painters and three anthologies of Thessaloniki prose writers, one of which was translated into German and another into English. He collaborated with most Greek literary magazines and directed the Thessaloniki magazines "Tram" (1987-1991/1996) and "Parafyada" (1985-1990). Two of his books have been translated into Dutch, and many of his short stories into German, English, and Dutch. Numerous critical essays and independent studies have been published on his prose work. The book by Assistant Professor S.
