Giorgos Romaios

Born in Corfu, the author has been residing in Athens since 1952. While studying at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), he began his journalism career with local Corfu newspapers "Efimerida ton Eidiseon" and "Eleftheria". During the dictatorship, he was imprisoned at EAT-ESA and Korydallos for his involvement in the resistance organization PAK. From 1958 to 1981, he worked at the newspaper "To Vima" as a parliamentary and political editor and Director of the Editorial Board. He also served as the director of "To Vima tis Kyriakis". His roles have included: - Vice President of the Union of Athens Daily Newspaper Journalists (1976-1978) - General Director of ERT (1981-1984) - President of the first Governing Committee of the Ionian University (1984). His political career spans two periods: - His tenure as a Member of the European Parliament (1984-1993), during which he served as Vice President of the Socialist Group (1985-1987) and Vice President of the European Parliament (1987-1993). - His ministerial career (1993-1998), during which he held positions as Deputy Minister and Alternate Minister of National Economy, Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of Public Order. Since 2000, he has returned to journalism as a columnist for "To Vima tis Kyriakis".
