Sotiris Valnten

Axel Sotiris Valden was born in Athens in 1949. He studied economics in Sweden and Paris and received his doctoral degree from the University of Athens. He served as an official of the European Commission (1996-2014). Previously, he was a visiting professor at Panteion University and the general secretary for international economic relations at the Ministry of National Economy. Today, he teaches at the Institute of European Studies at the Free University of Brussels. He is the author of numerous books and articles in journals and collective volumes, mostly on topics related to the Balkans, EU enlargement, and Greek foreign policy. He was actively involved in the anti-dictatorship struggle and was a member of parties of the reformist and democratic Left.
