Nestoras CHatzoudis

Nestor Chatzoudis was born in 1939 in the village of Adam, in the Thessaloniki region. Coming from a rural leftist family, he spent his childhood under the harsh conditions of German and Bulgarian occupation, the civil conflict, and the subsequent political and social discrimination by post-civil war governments. He completed high school and earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from the newly established School of Sub-engineers in Thessaloniki. He became politically active through EDA, and with the onset of the military coup on April 21, 1967, he joined the resistance movement through the organizations of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). He was arrested by the Junta and imprisoned until 1973. He married and settled in Galatsi with Sofia Gratsia, a lawyer from Galatsi who was also persecuted by the Junta regime, and they had two children. He actively participated in the political scene of Galatsi and, as a member of the KKE, contributed to the creation of the municipal coalition "Democratic Cooperation" of all democratic and leftist parties, led by V. Papadionysiou, which won the first post-Junta municipal elections by a landslide. He served Galatsi as a Municipal Councilor and as the General Secretary of the Municipality. As a Municipal Councilor and an active citizen, he systematically worked for the preservation of the off-plan forested and reforested areas of the Veikos Estate and the Tourkovounia hills. He contributed with particular persistence and intensity to promoting the demand for their reforestation and social utilization. He writes for the local press on topics of local interest and political current affairs, and in recent years, he has been researching the development of Galatsi during the 20th century.
