Iason Pipinis

Iason Pipinis is a journalist of Greek-Peruvian descent. He was born in Athens in 1979. He holds a Master's degree in Contemporary Latin American Studies from Complutense University of Madrid in Spain and a degree in Spanish Philology from the Hellenic Open University. He is the nephew of the former President of Peru, Juan Velasco Alvarado (1968-1975), who was an ally of Fidel Castro and Salvador Allende in the 1970s in Latin America, and also a mentor to Hugo Chávez. From 2000, and for eighteen years, he worked as a journalist at the television station Mega Channel, and he currently works as a political editor at the television station SKAI and the newspaper "Eleftheros Typos." He has collaborated with Spanish-speaking television networks TVE, Telesur, and Hispan TV of Venezuela. He has conducted journalistic missions in several Latin American countries, such as Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Cuba, Panama, Bolivia, and Costa Rica. He has collaborated with and interviewed Hugo Chávez and Evo Morales, as well as other significant political figures in Latin America. In 2005, he created the website www.americalatina.gr, which publishes news from Latin America. He is the creator of three documentaries about Latin America.
