Stergios Mpampanasis

Stergios Bampanasis studied and lived abroad for many years. He holds a degree in economics and a doctorate from the Budapest University of Economics, a Docteur d'État from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and an honorary doctorate from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He pursued a classic academic career as a lecturer, assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor at the University of Budapest, as a visiting professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business and Panteion University in Athens, and as a full professor at the University of the Aegean. He holds the title of Professor Emeritus. His teaching subjects in undergraduate and postgraduate programs include Political Economy, International Economics, International Trade, and Public Enterprise Management. He served as the Deputy Scientific Director at the Institute of Social Sciences in Budapest (1970-1982), President of the Scientific Council of the Center for Planning and Economic Research (1983-1984), Director and General Director of the Mediterranean Studies Foundation in Athens (1984-1993), President, Vice-President, and member of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Institute of the Sea and Maritime Aegean (1993-), and President of the Governing Committee of the University of the Aegean (1997). After returning to Greece, he was appointed a member of the National Council of Experts (1982-85) and worked at the Ministry of National Economy as an advisor (1985-89). He served as Chairman of the Board of the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE) (1993-96), a member of the Board of Directors of the Commercial Bank of Greece (1994-2002), and the Educational Council of the Diplomatic Academy (1998-2004). He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hellascom International.
