Louka Katseli

Louka T. Katseli is a Member of Parliament for PASOK, serving as the political spokesperson on economic issues and a member of the Political Council. Since 1987, she has been a professor at the Department of Economics at the University of Athens (currently on leave). She served as the Director of the OECD Development Centre (2003-2007) and as the Scientific Director of the Centre for Planning and Economic Research (KEPE) (1982-1986). She was also a member of the Council of Economic Advisors and a special economic advisor to Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou (1993-1996). She studied Economics (Smith College, BA, 1972) and holds a Ph.D. in Economics (Princeton, Ph.D., 1978). As an assistant and associate professor at Yale University (1977-1985), she received an award in 1980 as the best new lecturer and a fellowship from the German Marshall Fund (1982-1984). She also taught as a visiting professor at Birkbeck, University of London (1986) and has published numerous articles in scientific journals. She has been a member of many prestigious committees, such as the Economic and Monetary Policy Committee of the European Union, the Committee of Wise Men for the Revision of the European Social Charter, and the United Nations Committee for Development Policy (CDP).
