Dimitris Kounenakis

Dimitris Kounenakis was born and resides in Agios Nikolaos. He has two children. He is an economist and a freelancer. He has been involved in public affairs in Agios Nikolaos and the region for many years and has participated in numerous associations, unions, and collective efforts. He has served as the Prefect of Heraklion and a member of the Regional Council of Crete. Additionally, he has been a Prefectural Councilor of Lasithi and Deputy Prefect of Lasithi. He is a founding member of the Development Agency of Lasithi and served on its first Board of Directors. He is also a founding member of the Prefectural Committee for Tourism Promotion of Lasithi and was its first president. He served as a Municipal Councilor of Agios Nikolaos for 16 years and has been the Mayor of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos from 2007 to the present. He is a member of the financial committee of the Central Union of Municipalities and Communities of Greece (KEDKE) and Vice President of the Local Union of Municipalities & Communities (TEDK) of Lasithi. He is also the President of the Network of Tourist Municipalities of Greece.
