Stayros Arnaoutakis

Stavros Arnaoutakis is a Greek politician and economist. He was born on May 25, 1956, in Archanes, Heraklion, Crete. He studied economics and worked in the private sector from 1981 to 1991. In 1990, he was elected mayor of Archanes and was re-elected in 1994, 1998, and 2002. In 2004, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament on the PASOK ticket. In 2009, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Heraklion with PASOK, and from October 2009 to September 2010, he served as Deputy Minister of Economy, Competitiveness, and Shipping in the government of George Papandreou. In the 2010 regional elections, he was elected Governor of Crete with the support of PASOK. He is married to Irini Tzortzakaki and has two daughters, Antonia and Maria.
